Corporate management has empowered its employees at the expense of management control; managers need to reclaim control of tactical process and productivity, while maintaining and reinforcing employee-empowered customer service.

Without management direction, employees often wait for a crisis, rescue quality, and reap the corporate benefits of a hero. Without management tools, employees are forced to choose between the urgent and the important, triage based on opinion and politics, and be satisfied with qualitative rather than objective measures of performance. However, with management control, quality is counterbalanced with cost, customer service is equitably prioritized, and management energy is more proactive than reactive.
