Patrick's godparents, Vance and Janet Naumann, took a huge "Smiley Face" mylar balloon to his hospital room more than once. That always brought a big smile to Patrick's face. Janet and Vance also took many "Smiley Face" balloons to his Memorial Service on August 19, 2000. The Service ended outside St. Francis School where folks released their balloons and watched them all float heavenward together.

Edie Muehlberger told her daughter Olivia, then 6 years old, about the release of the balloons and that made Olivia smile! She immediately drew pictures on a card that captured exactly how the sky looked that day and sent them to Patrick's family. That made us all smile through tears because we were so touched by Olivia and her wonderful pictures
