December 2002
As recognition of their efforts has been forthcoming, our M. D. Anderson Science Park team has received financial aid from several new and exciting sources. One of the most significant sources of help has come through the Florida-based foundation called the A-T Children's Project. This foundation has committed $100,000 over two years to expand the previously described dexamethasone research.
Two other equally significant sources of support are a drug company based in the Northeast and one based in Austin. Each company is developing a drug that will mitigate, prevent, or delay diseases of aging. These companies recognize the excellent model A-T is for studying the aging process and have commissioned Dr. Wongs M.D. Anderson Science Park lab to study the effects of their drugs on A-T mice. Besides committing ongoing operating money, one of the companies has donated $20,000 for new research equipment.
